VSSDM will organize a ceremony to unveil the Liu Xiaobo memorial plaque, we sincerely invite you to attend.
Liu Xiaobo was one of the key persons involved in the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre. He was a writer, literary critic, human rights activist, and co-author of Charter 08, a manifesto calling for political reform in China. He was arrested in 2009 on suspicion of “inciting subversion of state power” and sentenced to eleven years’ imprisonment. Liu Xiaobo was awarded the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize during this imprisonment in China. At the award ceremony Oslo, the award was presented to an empty chair. In 2017, Liu became the second Nobel Peace Prize laureate to die in state custody.
VSSDM erected a memorial plaque in order to commemorate his long and non-violent struggle for fundamental human rights in China.

劉曉波是 1989 年北京天安門民主運動的關鍵人物。他是作家、文學評論 家、人權活躍份子、也是＂零八憲章＂起草人之一。 ＂零八憲章＂是一份 呼籲中國政府進行政治改革的宣言。2009 年，劉曉波因＂煽動顛覆國家政 權＂的罪名被捕，判 11 年徒刑。2010 年，劉曉波獲頒發諾貝爾和平獎， 以表揚他為中國人權長期而非暴力的抗爭。在服刑期間，劉曉波未能出席 在奧斯陸的頒獎典禮，大會唯有以一張空櫈代替。2017 年，劉曉波成為第 二位在國家監禁下死亡的諾貝爾和平獎得主。
