Dear MP  xxxxxxx ,

Hong Kongers may no longer be able to leave the city.

The Hong Kong government has put forth a proposal for legislation for a mass exit ban by the security bureau. If passed, it could take effect as soon as August 1st, 2021.

The bar association previously stated that this would grant authorities “an apparently unfettered power” to bar anyone from leaving Hong Kong. This proposal comes in the midst of bail hearings of 47 opposition members and speculation of further crackdowns by Beijing.

This is an unconventional crisis that needs unconventional solutions. Hong Kongers are running out of options and this new proposal is imminent.

Under current Canada’s COVID-19 border restrictions, most Hong Kongers are unable to reach Canada to claim asylum through a travel or study visa.

The new legislation will further cut off access to friends and family.

As your constituent, I urge you to speak out about this heartbreaking situation and demand the Canadian government to take action immediately.

I hope I can count on your support.

Thank you,
